Self Directed Work

After we finished our lino prints, we started our self directed work. I used this time to draw, and print in a different colour (orange).

Here is my drawing:
I like the strands of hair that fall over her eye, but it is a bit out of proportion.

It is based on this picture that I took of one of my friend's eyes:

This is my coloured lino print:
I was happy with the colour but it flooded quite a lot.

Lino Carving and Prints

One of the main things we worked on in art this semester were our lino carvings. We set up a tea party and took photos, then drew our drafts in our books. We copied the draft onto the lino with pencil, then used the carving tool to carve our images. I liked how my lino turned out; I liked the jug most of all. If I could improve on it I would carve a bit deeper in some of the lines because by the end of the printing process, some of them were flooding a bit. This is my lino carving:

The next stage was printing. We used lots of different coloured ink. In some of my prints there were extra white bits that I didn't want, and in others, some of the lines flooded. So for improvement I would work on putting the right amount of ink on my lino. Some of my prints did turn out okay though. I was very happy with one of my black prints. Artworks in Art Book

Over the semester we have done a lot of work in our art books. The following images are things I have done throughout the semester:

This is my title page. It is a still life of a bowl of apples and a flower in a small vase. I used colour pencils and water colours. In this artwork I am happy with the drawing itself, and the colour of the apples. However, I would have liked to add more colour to the background and the flower.

This is a water colour still life of a table that has been very elegantly set up, all ready for a meal. In this artwork there is not much I am happy with except how the grapes turned out. I would like to work on the shades of the colours and the running of the water colours into different shapes.

This next artwork is just an experimentation of patterns in a simple still life drawing. I used only lead pencil. I like the patterns and the shapes in this artwork, but it might need some fine-tuning with the shaping of the objects.

This artwork is a still life pencil drawing that uses a lot of shading. I am not extremely proud of this artwork as the shading could be a lot better, but I don't mind the shape of the pear.

This is a water colour painting of a lotus pod. While I like the shape and colour of the lotus pods, I think they needed a background so that they aren't floating in mid-air.

This is my draft for my lino carving. It is a pencil drawing of the image I chose that I took of my tea party setting. I like this drawing because it is simple enough for the carving, but still looks good. If I had to name one thing that could be improved, I would say the proportion of the objects.

Still Life Pencil Drawing

Another thing we did related to the topic of still life was a pencil still life drawing.
Here are the pictures from the website that we used that helped us construct our drawings:

Tea Party Photos

This semester in art, one of the major things that we did was create a lino. Our topic for this whole semester has been still life, so we created a tea party scene and took photos of it to base our lino carvings on. The following photo is the photo I used to create my lino. Once we had drawn a draft of these pictures, we experimented with patterns.

These are the rest of the pictures that I took of our tea party scene:
